Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fyodorovna, born Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine (1864-1918), wife of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich of Russia. Daughter of Ludwig IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom; granddaughter of Queen Victoria and older sister of Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna of Russia. Married in 1884; did not have children, but adopted Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich and his sister Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, her husband’s nephew and niece. Became a nun after the assassination of her husband in 1905. Murdered by the Bolsheviks in 1918.
