Queen Louise (Lady Louise Mountbatten)

Lady Louise Mountbatten (1889-1965), second wife and consort of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden. Daughter of Prince Louis of Battenberg (later Louis Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Milford Haven) and his wife, Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine. Great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, niece of Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fyodorovna and Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna of Russia and aunt of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (husband of Queen Elizabeth II). Served as a nurse with the Red Cross in the First World War and was active in social work after the war. Married in 1923, becoming Crown Princess of Sweden; became Queen consort in 1950. Developed a reputation for having progressive, democratic views.
