Christian VIII (1786-1848) ascended the Danish throne with the death of his half-cousin, Frederick VI (1768-1839), who had no sons. The coronation of the new King and his consort, Queen Caroline Amalie (1796-1881)—the last such ceremony in the history of the Danish monarchy—took place in the Chapel of Frederiksborg Castle, Hillerød on July 28, 1840.
